bird watching ecuador

We’ll get a taste of all that is good about South America in just two weeks in this small South American country.

From Andes (both east and west slope) to Amazon, we may see in excess of 500 species and a recent highlight of our Ecuador departure has been a visit to a small reserve where the owner feeds
Giant Antpitta – seeing is believing!

Next Tour:

ECUADOR’S CLOUDFOREST ANTPITTAS - 31 October - 15 November 2008 with Colin Bushell.

Perhaps one of South America’s most popular birding locations, the attraction for this small country has been enhanced with the “antpitta feeding techniques” employed at some reserves there.

We’ll visit cloud forest reserves near Mindo where we have a real chance of seeing Giant, Moustached, Yellow-breasted and Chestnut-rowned Antpittas at close range.

Map of EcuadorBut this tour is not just about these normally shy forest floor inhabitants. We expect to see many Choco endemics including Plate-billed Mountain-Toucan and Toucan Barbet as well as a variety of gaudy Neotropical birds such as cotingas (including Andean Cock-of-the-Rock) and tanagers.

General information: The smallest country in the rugged Andean highlands, Ecuador has an array of vibrant indigenous cultures, well-preserved colonial architecture, otherworldly volcanic landscapes, dense rainforest and sublime islands - all in a nation no bigger than the US state of Nevada.

Once a banana republic, Ecuador's politicians still pocket the wealth accumulated from its treasures: a picture-perfect capital, the all-consuming Amazonian jungle, breathtaking wildlife reserves, ancient sites, remote indigenous villages, and, of course, world-famous tropical beaches.(text from the lonely planet guide)
