A tour with a real difference. Cuba does not offer the large number of species usually associated with most Neotropical destinations, but we see most of Cuba’s endemic bird species plus a host of Nearctic migrants during our fortnight on the island. Probably the most relaxing of all our departures with a real Caribbean “feeling” to the tour but we’ll make sure you get those important birds like Cuban Tody, Our Next Tour: Our next tour to Cuba is planned for Some of Cuba’s endemic birds are quite widespread such as Cuban Trogon (the national bird), the delightful Cuban Tody and Cuban Green Woodpecker. |

Others, like the tiny Bee Hummingbird, the rare Gundlach’s Hawk and the quail-doves are more difficult and during this tour we’ll focus on these and some of the other regional specialities. The timing of our trip means that there’ll be plenty of migrants around as well as the remaining winter visitors from the north such as the colourful wood warblers and shorebirds to search for too. We’ll be assisted throughout the tour by local experts with the up-to-date bird information.
Travel in Cuba can involve anything from sipping mojittos at an all-inclusive resort in Varadero to scraping the spit and sawdust off your shoes outside the Casa de las Tradiciones in Santiago. The burgeoning tourist sector rubs up against the Cuba of communist myth.
Species recorded during the 2007 tour include: Cuban Green Woodpecker, Fernandina's Flicker, Cuban Pygmy-Owl, Bare-legged Owl, Stygian Owl, Cuban Trogon, Cuban Solitaire, Cuban Grassquit, Cuban Pewee, Giant Kingbird, Cuban Crow, Zapata Sparrow, Zapata Wren and Bee Hummingbird.
